Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Cleaning in Ontario, CA | Firebrick Chimney Sweep
We’re independent HeatShield specialists serving Ontario, and we provide full chimney cleaning plus HeatShield liner inspection, resurfacing, and CeCure sleeve installation across 91762, 91764, 91798, and 91758. What makes our HeatShield work different in Ontario is that we treat most jobs as a documentation-and-liner-safety call first and a soot sweep second, because so many of the 1950s and 1960s tract homes here still run original unlined or clay tile flues. Call (866) 520-4943 for a free estimate from a company that actually works on HeatShield sales & service every week.
Why Ontario Residents Choose Us for HeatShield Service
HeatShield is a specific system. It’s not a spray-on coating you can grab at a hardware store, and it’s not something a generalist sweep should be applying without understanding the substrate underneath. Nelson Quijada, our owner and lead chimney specialist, learned the mechanical and construction fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before narrowing his focus entirely to flue systems, firebox masonry, and draft diagnostics. When we evaluate a HeatShield application in Ontario, we’re looking at the original clay tile, the mortar joints, the smoke chamber, and the crown before we ever quote a coating. That’s why we’re the call for homeowners and landlords across Ontario service area who want straight answers, not a sales pitch.

Common HeatShield Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Ontario
- Original 1950s-60s clay tile that was never relined. A big share of Ontario’s core housing stock, especially around downtown and the 91762 ZIP, still carries the original clay tile liner. A visual sweep won’t catch hairline cracks that open up during the hot-dry to cool-wet fall swing. We camera the flue before recommending any HeatShield coating, because the resurfacing is only as good as what it’s bonding to.
- Wind-packed caps after Santa Ana events off the Cajon Pass. Ontario sits right in the wind corridor, and after a Santa Ana blow we routinely find spark arrestors packed with palm fronds, leaves, and old bird nests. That debris traps moisture against the upper flue and degrades HeatShield coatings from the top down. We clear the cap, document the damage, and tell you what the coating actually needs.
- Hairline cracks that don’t show on a visual sweep. Those cracks are the exact condition that makes HeatShield resurfacing a code-compliance and safety issue rather than a cosmetic one. We’ve seen cracks in 1950s Ontario clay tile that looked fine during a summer visual inspection and opened up visibly by November.
- Factory-built metal fireplaces in the eastern ZIPs that were never HeatShield-compatible. Newer construction in eastern Ontario leans toward factory-built metal fireplaces. HeatShield systems were not engineered for every original flue, so we verify listed clearances and liner type before recommending any coating. Skip that step and you’re gambling.
- Smoke chamber and firebox deterioration behind the damper. HeatShield Firebox and Smoke Chamber coatings exist for a reason. In older Ontario tract homes, the firebox and smoke chamber often show more wear than the flue itself. We apply the right HeatShield formulation to the right surface, not a generic refractory cement.
HeatShield Service in Ontario: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Ontario’s majority-renter housing market changes the shape of HeatShield work here. A large share of our our Chimney Sweep in Ontario calls are ordered by landlords who need a documented, photo-backed cleaning and liner-safety report for a 1960s tract house that may not have been swept in a decade. That’s a different job from the owner-occupied annual-sweep pattern you’d see in foothill towns like Upland. The landlord isn’t standing in the living room watching the fire; they’re holding a lease, a tenant complaint, and maybe a note from a home inspector or fire marshal. They need paperwork. So we camera the flue, pull the cap, document the creosote and the tile condition with photos, and give them a report they can file. Then we quote the work honestly: if the tiles can hold a HeatShield CeCure sleeve, we say so; if they can’t, we say that too. A dirty flue isn’t a maintenance issue, it’s a fire waiting on a cold night. In Ontario, that cold night comes after months of hot inland summers and fall wind events that fill caps and cracks with debris and moisture, so the cleaning season here kicks off before the first cold snap, not during winter.
HeatShield Models & Products We Service in Ontario
We work on the full HeatShield system lineup: the CeCure Sleeve cast-in-place liner, Cerfractory Flue Sealant for resurfacing, Firebox and Smoke Chamber coatings, and Crown Coat plus crown repair systems. Every application uses genuine HeatShield materials and matched components. We won’t substitute generic refractory cements, because the bond and cure are formulation-specific. For Ontario homeowners, that means a CeCure sleeve we install here carries the same material spec as one installed anywhere else, but the substrate prep we do around the clay tile is what makes it hold. If the existing tile is too far gone to resurface, we’ll tell you straight that a full sleeve or rebuild is the honest call rather than sell a coating that fails in a few seasons.

FAQs – HeatShield Chimney Cleaning in Ontario
Maybe. It depends entirely on the condition of the original clay tile. We camera the flue first. If the tiles are still structurally sound with only hairline cracking, HeatShield Cerfractory resurfacing or a CeCure sleeve can work. If the tiles are spalling, shifted, or missing sections, no coating will save it, and you’ll need a full reline or rebuild. The only way to know is a camera inspection, and that’s part of our free estimate. Call (866) 520-4943 to schedule one.
You need both. Debris packed into the cap traps moisture and blocks draft, and that blocked draft lets creosote and soot settle down the flue. We pull the cap, clear the spark arrestor, then sweep the flue and camera it to check what the wind-driven debris did to the upper liner. In Ontario’s wind corridor, we see this every fall. Call (866) 520-4943 to book a sweep and cap inspection before the first cold snap.
We can inspect the chimney if the landlord or property manager authorizes access, but as a tenant you generally can’t order work on a property you don’t own. What you can do is request a written inspection report with photos from us, share it with the landlord, and let them decide. Most Ontario landlords respond to documented liner-safety issues, especially with photo evidence. If you need a report to send your landlord, call (866) 520-4943 and we’ll document what we find.
Usually not. HeatShield systems are engineered for masonry flues with clay tile or cast-in-place substrates, not for the listed metal flue systems on factory-built fireplaces. If your eastern Ontario home has a factory-built unit, unlike our HeatShield repair in Chino work on masonry systems, we’ll verify the manufacturer’s listed clearances and recommend the correct cleaning and maintenance path for that specific unit. Don’t let anyone sell you a masonry coating on a metal flue. Call (866) 520-4943 and we’ll tell you what your system actually needs.
We camera the flue and look at three things: the number and width of the cracks, whether the tiles have shifted out of alignment, and whether the mortar joints are failing. Hairline cracks without shifting are often HeatShield candidates. Offset tiles or missing sections are not. We’ll show you the camera footage and tell you honestly which path applies to your chimney, even if the answer is that a coating would be a waste of your money. Call (866) 520-4943 for a straight diagnosis.
