Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Los Angeles, CA | Firebrick Chimney Sweep
We provide independent DuraFlex chimney cleaning, inspection, and repair across Los Angeles, and most of the DuraFlex systems we open up here haven’t held a fire in years. What makes our DuraFlex work different in this city is simple: we’re not chasing a winter sweep schedule. We’re documenting liner condition, clearing out what’s been living in the flue, and catching joint separation before a landlord’s turnover inspection or a home sale turns it into an emergency. Firebrick Chimney Sweep is a full-service chimney specialist, not a franchise. Call (866) 520-4943 for a free estimate.
Why Los Angeles Residents Choose Us for DuraFlex Service
DuraFlex liners show up in a lot of Los Angeles chimneys, and for good reason. The stainless single-wall and insulated flexible kits fit the narrow, offset flues of 1920s Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Colonial Revival houses without knocking out brick. But a liner is only as good as the person who installs it and the person who inspects it later. We work on DuraFlex sales & service every week, so we know where these systems fail in this specific housing stock: at the joint bands, at the crown, and wherever an uncapped flue has been left open for birds.
Nelson Quijada, our owner and lead chimney specialist, grew up off Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood. He’s spent two decades working on the same hillside homes and mid-century bungalows he walked past as a kid. He learned the mechanical and construction fundamentals at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before narrowing his focus entirely to flue systems, firebox masonry, and draft diagnostics. That local history matters because Los Angeles chimneys fail differently than chimneys in cold-weather cities, and you want someone who’s seen it enough times to know what he’s looking at.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Los Angeles
Here’s what we actually find when we open up DuraFlex liners in Los Angeles:
- Joint band separation from seismic settling. Los Angeles chimneys have been through decades of small earthquakes and Santa Ana wind vibration. Insulated DuraFlex sections in unlined 1920s brick flues gradually loosen at the joint bands. When they pull apart, soot and nesting material migrate behind the liner where you can’t see it. We re-seat and re-band the sections during service, which most sweep-only companies won’t touch.
- Uncapped flues full of birds, bees, and droppings. The dry season in Los Angeles is long, and an uncapped flue on a Spanish Colonial in the flats is an open invitation. Sparrows, squirrels, and raccoons pack nests against the DuraFlex liner, blocking the annular space and holding moisture against the stainless. We pull the nest, clear the droppings, and install a proper DuraFlex cap so it doesn’t happen again.
- Surface pitting where marine air meets stainless. Coastal marine air moves inland through the LA basin, and when it mixes with occasional winter rain sitting inside a poorly seated cap, the stainless starts to pit. We see this on the cap and the top section of the liner far more often than freeze damage. A pitted top section is usually repairable. A corroded-through section is not.
- Crown spalling at liner termination. The 1920s mortar crowns on Los Angeles chimneys crack from decades of dry heat. Where the DuraFlex liner terminates at the crown, the spalling mortar exposes the liner edge and lets rain and debris into the gap. We rebuild the crown wash and re-seat the liner top, which stops the leak without replacing a sound liner.
- Documentation-grade inspections for rental turnover. This is the one that surprises people from other cities. In Los Angeles, most of our DuraFlex work is inspection and documentation. A landlord needs the liner photoed and the cap condition verified for a move-out file. A seller needs it for a disclosure. We provide the photo set and the written condition report that stands up in both situations.
DuraFlex Service in Los Angeles: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s the thing about Los Angeles that most chimney guides miss: this is a majority-renter, majority-non-firing city. The 90001 – 90010 corridor runs through South LA, West Adams, Koreatown, and the Hollywood flats. It’s dense with 1900s – 1930s Craftsman bungalows and Spanish Colonial Revival houses, many converted to multi-unit rentals, alongside 1920s – 1960s stucco apartment buildings whose fireplaces are decorative and long sealed or vented for gas. The fireplace in these buildings is an architectural feature, not a heat source. It has probably never held a fire since the building was split into units.
So the DuraFlex work here is usually documentation-grade. We photo the liner, cap, and crown condition for a landlord’s move-out file or a sale disclosure rather than running a winter sweep schedule. That means the technician’s real job is knowing what a liner should look like after years of sitting unused, and being able to tell the difference between cosmetic staining and a joint that’s actually separating. Nelson has spent enough years on these roofs to make that call without sending anyone into an unnecessary re-line. If the liner is sound, we say so. We’ll hand you the photos to prove it.
DuraFlex Models & Products We Service in Los Angeles
We service the full DuraFlex line that shows up in Los Angeles chimneys: the DuraFlex SW single-wall flexible stainless relining kit, the DuraFlex Pro flexible liner, the DuraFlex Insulated double-wall liner, and DuraFlex stainless multi-flue and custom caps. We keep genuine DuraFlex liner sections, joint bands, top plates, and caps on hand for like-for-like repair, because waiting on parts means leaving a Los Angeles flue open through another dry season. When a DuraFlex part is discontinued or the existing system is already mixed-brand, we use quality aftermarket caps and flashing instead, and we’ll tell you exactly what we’re doing and why.
We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider. We work on the brand, but we are not authorized, sponsored, or warranted by DuraFlex. That’s an important distinction. It means our recommendations are based on what the liner actually needs, not on a manufacturer relationship.

AfterDuraFlex Service Pricing in Los Angeles
DuraFlex chimney cleaning and inspection in Los Angeles typically runs $225 – $375 for a single flue with photo documentation. Add a Level 2 inspection, which we recommend on any liner that hasn’t been opened in years, and you’re looking at $350 – $550. Cap installation runs $350 – $700 for the labor depending on roof access, plus the cap itself, which ranges from $65 for a basic DuraFlex oval cap to $550 or more for a custom multi-flue cap. If a joint band has separated and needs re-seating, that’s typically under $200. Full re-lining is a different conversation, and we won’t have it unless the photos show the existing liner is corroded through or separated beyond a safe re-seat.
On a converted Craftsman fourplex in West Adams — not far from Echo Park — our tech pulled a sparrow nest and two seasons of droppings off a DuraFlex insulated liner that had never been capped since the unit was split into rentals, then found two joint bands separated from seismic settling. We re-seated the bands, installed a DuraFlex stainless multi-flue cap over the shared clay flues, and handed the landlord a photo set of the liner and crown for the turnover inspection file. The whole job cost less than half of what a re-line would have run.

FAQs – DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning in Los Angeles
Repair almost always works in Los Angeles. The spalling you’re seeing is the original 1920s mortar crown cracking from decades of dry heat, which is a separate failure from the DuraFlex liner itself. We rebuild the crown wash around the existing liner termination, which is a $400 – $800 job on most LA flats homes. We only recommend full crown replacement when the masonry has separated to the point that water is already migrating down the flue walls, which the Level 2 photos will show clearly. Call (866) 520-4943 and we’ll tell you which one you’ve got.
No. We are an independent DuraFlex service provider. We install, clean, inspect, and repair DuraFlex systems, and we use genuine DuraFlex parts for like-for-like repairs. We are not authorized, sponsored, or warranted by DuraFlex, which means our recommendations are based on the condition of your liner, not on a manufacturer agreement.
Most single-flue DuraFlex cleaning and inspection jobs take 90 minutes to two hours on site, including the photo documentation. Add an hour if we’re re-seating joint bands or installing a cap. Los Angeles flat-roof access and short chimneys usually move faster than steep hillside pitches, but we’ll give you a realistic window when you book.
We service the DuraFlex SW, Pro, and Insulated liner lines, plus DuraFlex stainless multi-flue and custom caps. If you have an older mixed-brand system and need to know what’s actually in there, the Level 2 inspection will document it. We keep genuine DuraFlex sections and joint bands on hand for most common Los Angeles installations.
Chimney cleaning with photo documentation runs $225 – $375 for a single flue in Los Angeles. A Level 2 inspection adds $125 – $175. Cap installation runs $350 – $700 labor plus the cap. Joint band re-seating is typically under $200. The factors that move the price are roof access, flue height, and whether wildlife removal is involved. Call (866) 520-4943 for a free estimate with exact numbers for your chimney.
